WEEKLY UPDATE: Manchester City Women Official Supporters’ Club #8

Welcome to another Manchester City Women Official Supporters’ Club weekly update.

I am writing this on Sunday evening following England’s 3-0 victory over a very ill disciplined Cameroon side which saw our Lionesses book their passage into the quarter finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019. Phil Neville’s side will now face an impressive Norway outfit in Le Havre on Thursday.

Our intrepid members who are travelling all over France following the girls were there in Valenciennes yesterday and pre-match they even managed to catch up with Manchester City star Megan Campbell who is on media duty in France.

As ever, our members at the game sang out loud and proud as our very own Steph Houghton and Ellen White scored the first and second goals of the game.

The obvious debate is the ever-present VAR debacles, but in fairness, I feel in this game it did help the officials to come to the correct decisions. The amount of time which it takes in doing so is a worrying aspect, as I know our Scottish members can attest to after last week’s episode against Argentina. It is a ‘hot potato’ and I’m sure we will see much more controversy before the end of the tournament.

Back at home, we have been putting together the facts and figures for this year’s second annual Manchester City Women Official Supporters’ Club yearbook. Last year’s debut edition proved extremely popular and was a complete sell-out. We are hoping to make this year’s publication even better so keep your eyes open for the launch in the coming weeks. We have also produced our first new merchandise items of the summer with our SSE Women’s FA Cup winners’ badges and our double winners’ pennants now available.

On the pitch, we have had news of a home behind-closed-doors pre-season friendly against Blackburn Rovers while a number of our members are heading to The University of Central Lancashire next weekend to support many of our original Man City Ladies who are taking part in the Dick Kerr Ladies Cup, a walking football tournament. As usual, it will be a case of ‘COME ON CITY!’.

Safe travels to all of our members heading to Le Havre for Thursday’s big game and we will be back with another update next week.
