Welcome to another weekly update from everyone here at Manchester City Women Official Supporters’ Club.
Well what a fantastic opening weekend from the FA Women’s Super League that was across the board. From amazing crowds, wonderful goals and stupendous saves, the opening weekend’s action had it all.
Our OSC played our part in history on Saturday as we were present amongst the 31,000-plus spectators at The Etihad Stadium watching the Manchester derby. Our branch were guests of the club and we were presented with a memorial plaque to mark the occasion by Gavin Makel, City Women’s Head of Football before the game while four members of our committee had the opportunity to view the game from the luxurious Tunnel Club hospitality lounge.
For the rest of us, it was over to Block 105 and wow, what an atmosphere it was with thousands of Blues joining in our songs and chants. There were some amazing feelings for all of us. I’m sure that the game is covered elsewhere better than I could do here but I think we just edged it in terms of quality and it is a big hurdle for us to have cleared on day one.
This week will see our members travel out to Switzerland as our latest UEFA Women’s Champoins League adventure gets underway. We face FF Lugano 1976 in the first leg of our last-32 tie before coming home to a very tough game at Reading at Adams Park on Sunday lunchtime.
I would like to end this column by offering our congratulations to both Bristol City and Chelsea fans on their fantastic crowds last weekend. The only problem now for women’s football is making sure a good number keep coming back but that is a topic of conversation for another time.
Have a great week and best of luck for your club’s next fixture.
Dave (Committee member – MCWFC OSC)
