Welcome to the weekly update from Manchester City Women Official Supporters’ Club.
Well after our third round of FA Women’s Super League games I think we can safely say that this is going to be an extremely competitive league this season.
We are naturally delighted to start off with three wins from three tough fixtures. Our latest win this Sunday was a tight 1-0 victory over Everton in Southport. I have to say that The Blue Girls have really started the season well. Willie Kirk is obviously an accomplished manager and he has a young and very talented pool of players gathered now, they could be in the running for honours this season. As I say, we are delighted to get three points from a fixture that I’m sure others will find as equally tough, although I doubt they would have the horrendous weather we endured on Sunday.
Last week saw us complete an impressive victory over FF Lugano 1976 in the UEFA Champions League. Our reward is a replica tie against the team that knocked us out last year, Spanish club Atletico Madrid. The occasion will also see Toni Duggan return to face City so it should be a cracking tie.
One tradition which we began last season was that the OSC decided that as women footballers are not presented with the match ball on the occasion of scoring a hat-trick, we would put that right for our City girls at least. Now each player who grabs a treble is presented with a ball signed by our members to mark the occasion. The first recipient this season was Janine Beckie who was presented with the ball for her hat-trick against FF Lugano 1976 by Mia Jackson at our game at Everton on Sunday.
Enjoy the international break and we will see you all next week.
