Chelsea goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger is one of 11 players nominated for the German Football Ambassador Public Award 2020.

The shortlist has been announced on the award’s official website with Berger being just one of two female players to make the frame to receive the accolade.

The award recognises the efforts which German players and coaches make towards positive development through football overseas.

Chelsea keeper Berger has seen her career go from strength-to-strength since bravely winning a personal battle with thyroid cancer in 2018. The player went on to star for former club Birmingham City before earning herself a move to former Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions Chelsea in January 2019.

Since moving to Kingsmeadow, Berger has been used in a squad rotation system by Chelsea manager Emma Hayes but has always been reliable when called upon. The keeper’s quality was highlighted in February’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup final as she put in a Player of the Match performance. Chelsea defeated London rivals Arsenal 2-1 in that tie to lift the trophy for the first time, keeper Berger won her first medal in England in the process.

Berger is joined by Chelsea men’s defender Antonio Rudiger on the award shortlist. A full list of the nominees along with voting details can be viewed by on the award’s website.
