Birmingham City have triggered a clause in forward Lucy Whipp’s contract which will see her remain at the SportNation.bet Stadium for a further year according to reports on the club’s official website.
The 24-year-old Ormskirk-born forward joined the Blues last summer following a spell playing in the United States and she has played a key role for her new club this season.
Whipp’s contract with Birmingham City was due to end later this month but the Blues have exercised an option to keep her at the club next season.
The player has featured in each of Birmingham City’s 13 Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixtures this season with 11 of those outings being starts. Whipp’s only goal came as the Blues won 2-0 at relegation rivals Bristol City in December, Birmingham City’s best result of the season on the road.
Whipp started her professional career with Everton who she represented at senior level during the 2013 and 2014 campaigns before the forward moved to the United States to combine her studies with her football. Whipp spent four years at St John’s University in New York where she represented the St Johns Red Storm college side.
With the player now contracted to latest club Birmingham City for another 12 months, she will be hoping to help the Blues improve on their 11th-place finish next term.
