Goalkeeper Becky Spencer has signed a new one-year contract at Tottenham Hotspur, with the option to extend for a further year the club have today announced via their official website.
The experienced keeper joined Spurs at the beginning of the season, moving across London from West Ham United.
Spencer has gone on to keep five clean sheets from 16 appearances across all competitions for Karen Hills and Juan Amoros’ side.
Beginning her career at Watford, Spencer joined the Arsenal Centre of Excellence in 2001. In 2008, she was in goal as Arsenal lifted the London Cup. Frustrated from lack of game time, Spencer moved to France where she joined ASJ Soyaux in 2011. In 2012, she returned to England and featured for both Arsenal and Birmingham City before joining Chelsea in four years later. In 2018, Spencer moved to West Ham United where she made 12 league appearances prior to joining current club Spurs.
Spencer has played for England at Under-19 and Under-20 levels and she was a member of the 2009 team who won the UEFA European Women’s Under-19 Championship. In 2016, she was called up to the full England squad where she was an unused substitute.
Upon signing her contract extension, Spencer told the Spurs website “I really enjoyed my first season at Spurs and I think we have an extremely talented group of players who all have the same drive and focus in wanting to succeed.
“Signing a new deal was an easy decision, the coaching team have shown a lot of faith in me and that has helped me move closer to reaching the performance levels that I know I’m capable of.”
