German international midfielder Melanie Leupolz is joining Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions Chelsea in the best goalscoring form of her career to date at the top level of women’s football.

The 26-year-old is swapping current club Bayern Munich for Kingsmeadow next month with Leupolz having signed a pre-contract agreement with The Blues.

Leupolz moves to England with the player having enjoyed her most fruitful campaign to date in-front of goal in top flight football. The midfielder has netted six goals in 18 matches in the FLYERALARM Frauen-Bundesliga, a record which has put an end to a three-year goal drought for the player in the German top flight.

Chelsea’s summer signing has only netted six league goals on one other occasion in her career, that being with former club SC Freiburg when she recorded the same tally playing in the German second tier. With The Blues having the best goalscoring record in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League this season of 47 goals in just 15 matches, the fact that Leupolz has rediscovered her shooting boots will only make Emma Hayes’ side an even more frightening prospect.

The midfielder will initially spend the next three years at Kingsmeadow as Chelsea look to dominate both domestically and in Europe.
