Former Chelsea goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl has joined Spanish club Atletico Madrid on a two-year deal.
The 37-year-old Swedish international left German club VfL Wolfsburg earlier this week following the expiry of her contract and she has quickly found herself a new side for the next two seasons.
Atletico Madrid today announced Lindahl’s arrival at the Centro Deportivo Wanda Alcalá de Henares via their official website.
Lindahl spent four years of her career playing in England with Chelsea. The Swede established herself as a firm favourite with The Blues faithful. She won two league titles during her time in South West London along with the FA Women’s Super League 1 Spring Series in 2017. The player also lifted the Women’s FA Cup on two separate occasions.
The keeper left Kingsmeadow very much with club legend status last summer and she went on to sign for German champions VfL Wolfsburg. Lindahl won the FLYERALARM Frauen-Bundesliga title with the She-Wolves this season while she also lifted the DFB Frauen-Pokal.
Towards the end of her stay at the AOK-Stadion, Lindahl lost her place in the VfL Wolfsburg side to German keeper Friedericke Abt. With first team football far from assured, Lindahl left the club at the end of her one-year contract.
