Former Chelsea defender Ali Riley has returned to Swedish club FC Rosengard on a loan arrangement from current side Orlando Pride according to reports on the American club’s official website.
The 32-year-old New Zealand international defender spent one season in the FA Women’s Super League with Chelsea in 2018/2019 before joining German club Bayern Munich.
During her time in England, Riley made nine league appearances for the South West Londoners but often found herself warming the bench. She made 17 appearances in total for The Blues but her progress was hindered by a niggling foot injury sustained in her early days at Kingsmeadow.
After spending seven months in Germany with Bayern Munich, Riley moved to American National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Orlando Pride earlier this year. The player has been unable to make an appearance for The Pride as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic and she has now agreed to return to former club FC Rosengard on a loan deal until November.
Riley returns to the club where she previously spent six years of her career during which time she won three Damallsvenskan league titles, three Swedish Cups and three Swedish Super Cups. The defender is a fans’ favourite at Malmo IP after making almost 150 appearances for the club during her first spell.
The return to FC Rosengard will hopefully allow Riley to enjoy some much-needed game time with the player yet to pull on her boots in 2020.
