Rachel Williams has followed former Birmingham City teammate Kerys Harrop in signing for Tottenham Hotspur as reported on Spurs’ official website.

The 32-year-old striker becomes the second signing for the North London side so far this summer. Williams has signed on at The Hive until next summer with the option to extend by a further year.

Williams came through the centre of excellence at Leicester City and helped them to the treble in 2007 and promotion to the Premier League Northern Division in 2008. That summer she moved to Doncaster Rover Belles, ending her first season as Club Player of the Season. In December 2010, the attacking midfielder moved to Birmingham City and converted to the role of striker. The following year, she was voted Player’s Player of the Year at the FA Women’s Football Awards.

In 2013, Williams joined Chelsea after scoring the equaliser in the Women’s FA Cup final against them which
Birmingham City won after a penalty shootout. She then spent time with Notts County Ladies in 2015 before re-joining Birmingham City in 2017. She made 16 appearances for the Blues last season in all competitions,
scoring four goals.

At international level, Williams has been capped 13 times by England and represented Great Britain in the 2012 Olympic Games.

After completing her move to Spurs, Williams told official club media sources “I was really impressed with Spurs when I played against them while at Birmingham and after speaking to Karen and Juan, I really do feel this is the right challenge for me in the next stage of my career.

“I think Spurs can be a real threat next season and I want to achieve as much as possible with the team.”
