Former Manchester United winger Lizzie Arnot has today been revealed as the latest signing for Scottish Women’s Premier League side Rangers as reported on The Gers’ official website.
Arnot had etched her name into United history when she scored the first-ever goal for the professional side in their 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup in 2018. The 24-year-old went on to make 34 appearances for The Red Devils, scoring nine goals since making the move down south from Hibernian.
Arnot has received 24 caps for the Scottish national team and with a potential spot at the UEFA Women’s EURO 2020 up for grabs, she will be looking to get plenty of minutes under her belt with new club Rangers to force her way into Shelley Kerr’s side. Being part of a full-time professional Rangers side was a big allure for Arnot making the move to Malky Thompson’s side.
Upon signing for The Gers, Arnot told the club’s official media sources “I’m really excited and it is such an exciting time to be a part of the club.
“You look at the investment they are putting in, and it is great for the women’s game and to be a part of a professional club in Scotland is great.”
Arnot had left Manchester United earlier this summer along with midfielder Aimee Palmer, and goalkeepers Aurora Mikalsen and Siobhan Chamberlain. With Palmer and Mikalsen both having found new clubs in Bristol City and Tottenham Hotspur respectively, Chamberlain now remains the only United departure thus far who hasn’t found a new employer. You would imagine that there will be several clubs keen to sign a keeper of her experience.
