Scottish midfielder Cuthbert signs new Chelsea deal

Scottish international midfielder Erin Cuthbert has committed her long term future to Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions Chelsea according to reports on The Blues’ official website.

Cuthbert has put pen to paper on a new contract that will see her stay with the South West Londoners until 2023.

The 22-year-old has already made 98 appearances for Emma Hayes’ side since joining the club from Glasgow City in 2016. She has also made 34 appearances for the Scottish national team and represented The Tartan Army at both the UEFA Women’s EURO 2017 and the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019.

After signing her new deal, Cuthbert told Chelsea’s official media sources “It means so much to me, I’ve been here three-and-a-half years now and this club feels like home to me. I can’t imagine myself anywhere else and I’m just happy to get the deal over the line.”

Cuthbert was a pivotal part of Chelsea’s very successful campaign last season which saw them win the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and also the FA Women’s Continental League Cup for the first time. The attacking midfielder featured in 23 out of a possible 25 matches for The Blues which demonstrates just how crucial a part she is in that Chelsea squad.

The news of Cuthbert’s contract comes off the back of Beth England also committing her long term future to The Blues and following the arrivals of Jessie Fleming, Niamh Charles, and Melanie Leupolz. It is clear that not only is manager Hayes looking for short term success, but she is also investing in youth with means that Chelsea could be a formidable side for many years to come.
