New Zealand international goalkeeper joins Reading

New Zealand international goalkeeper Erin Nayler has joined Barclays FA Women’s Super League club Reading ahead of the 2020/2021 season according to reports on The Royals’ official website.

The 28-year-old Auckland-born stopper joins The Royals following a three-year spell with French top flight club Bordeaux.

Nayler shared the goalkeeping duties with Romane Bruneau at the Stade Sainte-Germaine last season with both players featuring in exactly half of Bordeaux’s fixtures in the French Division 1 Feminine. Bordeaux finished the season in third place behind both Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain, the campaign having been cut short due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The keeper started her career in her native New Zealand. She represented Lynn-Avon United, Forrest Hill Milford, Eastern Suburbs AFC and Norwest United AFC before moving to America where she joined National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Sky Blue FC. Nayler lasted just 26 days with Sky Blue FC before being ousted. She then moved to France where she joined Lyon before being loaned out to Grenoble Foot 38.

Nayler joined latest side Bordeaux in 2017 and she has enjoyed a productive three years with the club before becoming a free agent this summer. The keeper recorded 13 clean sheets in 42 Division 1 Feminine fixtures for the French outfit.

The Kiwi will challenge Grace Moloney for the number one jersey after securing a move to Reading.
