England will return to competitive action for the first time in seven months in October when they travel to Wiesbaden to face Germany in an international friendly match.
The Lionesses have not been in action since competing in the SheBelieves Cup back in March but The Football Association have today announced that Phil Neville’s side will make their long-awaited comeback against Germany on Tuesday 27 October. The match will take place at the Brita Arena with the kick-off time yet to be confirmed.
The meeting with the Germans comes just 11 months on from the last fixture between the two nations at Wembley Stadium. On that occasion, Germany won 2-1 courtesy of a Klara Buhl goal at the death.
Alexandra Popp had given Martina Voss-Tecklenburg’s side an early lead before Ellen White equalised on the stoke of half-time. Germany were the stronger side throughout and Buhl delivered a 90th-minute knockout blow to the hosts.
The Football Association have revealed that they are looking to arrange further autumn friendlies with more details set to be provided in due course.
The next England training camp will take place at St George’s Park from 15-21 September. The camp comes after just two rounds of 2020/2021 Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixtures.
