Lisa Fallon has admitted that the ‘massive potential’ of the London City Lionesses squad was a big factor in her opting to become the club’s new head coach in the close season.

The Dubliner has replaced former first team head coach John Bayer at Princes Park and will look to continue to build on the foundations put down at the club last season in their debut year in the FA Women’s Championship.

The appointment of Fallon was a major coup for The Pride with their new head coach holding plenty of experience working in both the men’s and women’s games. She has previously worked under Michael O’Neill with the Northern Ireland senior side while Fallon has coached at Chelsea during Emma Hayes’ tenure at the club.

When opting to take the London City Lionesses job, Fallon has admitted that the potential of the squad was a huge factor.

“I have massive belief in this squad” said Fallon when speaking to FA Women’s Super League Full-Time in a press conference arranged by the club. “That was a huge part of the reason why I took this job because of the squad and because of the group of players.

“They’re young, they’re dynamic, they’re hungry, there is massive potential there.

“I was so excited to get the opportunity to work with this group.”

Fallon has brought four new players to the club this summer, keeping something of a settled squad at Princes Park. She went on to express her delight at the squad which she has been able to assemble.

The London City Lionesses head coach added “We have made a few additions and I think you need that, just to bring in some fresh legs, fresh faces and fresh experiences, players who bring different types of experiences into the group is really important as well.

“I am really pleased with the balance that we have achieved. I am very happy with the squad and I am very grateful to the board for ensuring that I could have this squad and keep it together and bring in those additional players.

“It is really exciting, I have a really good group and over the course of the next couple of years there could be some really exciting stuff to come.”

London City Lionesses kick-off their 2020/2021 FA Women’s Championship season with a fixture against Sheffield United at Princes Park on Sunday.
