Chelsea captain Magdalena Eriksson got her name on the scoresheet for Sweden this evening as they defeated 10-player Hungary 8-0 in a UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifier in Gothenburg.

The 27-year-old Stockholm-born defender netted Sweden’s fourth goal just after the hour mark in a second half which saw the visiting defence crumble.

Lina Hurtig’s 11th-minute goal was one of two decisive first half moments at the Gamla Ullevi, the 41st-minute dismissal of visiting goalkeeper Barbara Biro being the other.

With the advantage of an additional player, the second period saw the Swedish superiority shine through as Peter Gerhardsson’s side netted a further seven goals without reply.

Anna Anvegard’s quick-fire double put the Swedes 3-0 up before Chelsea defender Eriksson made it four with 23 minutes left on the clock. Hurtig then added a fifth before Sweden netted two further goals within the space of a minute through Amanda Ilestedt and Anvegard, the latter completing her hat-trick. Defender Linda Sembrant completed the scoring with an eighth goal in injury time as Sweden remained at the top of their qualification group.

Chelsea defender Eriksson had a game to remember for the Swedes. Not only did she get her name on the scoresheet and play her part in her side recording a clean sheet, she also assisted Hurtig for the opener and saw an effort cannon off the woodwork shortly after half-time. Eriksson has now netted in both the home and away fixtures against the Hungarians.
