Manchester United full-back Ona Batlle was an unused substitute as Spain defeated Moldova 9-0 in Chisinau this evening in their latest UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifier.

The 21-year-old has been capped by her country at senior level on five occasions to date but she will have to wait a bit longer for her sixth cap after being made to watch on at the Stadionul Zimbru as Spain destroyed a Moldovan side ranked 92nd in the world.

Mariona Caldentey netted a hat-trick for Spain while Lucia Garcia helped herself to a brace. There were also goals for Jennifer Hermoso, Alba Redondo and Patricia Guijarro along with a Moldovan own goal from Anastasia Silovobova.

Spain currently lead their qualifying group after four matches. They have a two-point advantage on second-placed Poland and are three points ahead of the Czech Republic who they will meet next month.

Manchester United defender Batlle made her senior debut for Spain in May 2019 but was not selected in the 23-player group for the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019. She has appeared in one of her country’s four UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifying matches to date and will be keen to go to her first tournament as a senior player should Spain qualify for the finals in England.
