Manchester City forward Georgia Stanway believes that some fans will see tomorrow night’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup semi-final tie against Arsenal at The Academy Stadium as a cup final given the level of talent which will be on show.

Gareth Taylor’s side go into battle against the competition’s most successful club with the winners of the tie set to face Everton in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 1 November.

Arsenal promise to provide City with a stern test with The Gunners having started the season in real eye-catching form. The North Londoners have netted a whopping 15 goals in their first two matches in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. Despite City needing to overcome a tough assignment against Arsenal to reach a second consecutive Vitality Women’s FA Cup final, it is a challenge which forward Stanway is relishing.

“As a player you can’t beat gameday and that is something we are getting a lot of” said Stanway. “We are absolutely in our element, we are thriving.

“I think it is just exciting, it is another opportunity to go out there and put Manchester City on the map and to showcase how much hard work we put in.

“We are not just here for fun, we are here to prove a point, we want to be recognised and put women’s football on the front foot.”

Whoever advances from tomorrow night’s semi-final will undoubtedly go to Wembley as the favourites to lift the trophy and Stanway believes that some people may class City’s tie with Arsenal almost as a final in it’s own right.

She added “Tomorrow is not just going to be a semi-final, I think some people will call it a final because of the two top teams in it.

“It is exciting just to see what is going to happen and I think that it will be a good game for the fans to watch.

“Likewise, the final will be at Wembley and there’s no better stage.”

Manchester City’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup semi-final tie with Arsenal kicks-off at 7.15pm tomorrow night and will be screened live on BBC Two.
