Former Liverpool forward joins Sheffield United

Former Liverpool forward Courtney Sweetman-Kirk was today unveiled as the latest signing for early FA Women Championship leaders Sheffield United.

The 29-year-old had been without a club since departing leaving Liverpool in May with The Reds facing relegation to the second tier.

Sheffield United have today confirmed via their official website that Sweetman-Kirk has been reunited with manager Neil Redfearn who previously brought her to Liverpool during his short tenure with the club.

Upon securing Sweetman-Kirk’s services for a second time, Redfearn told Sheffield United’s official media sources “Courtney is a great addition to the group.

“She is a proven scorer and vastly experienced at Championship level and gives us options all across the front line with her versatility and creativity.

“We’re really pleased to get Courts in as I’m sure she will prove to be a valuable asset to a quality group.”

The Leicester-born forward has previously had spells at Notts County, Doncaster Belles and Everton, amongst others so is well versed in integrating into a new side. During her time with The Belles, the striker earned the FA Women’s Super League 2 Player of the Year award, helping the club earn promotion in the process, and that experience could prove invaluable to securing promotion with The Blades.

Sweetman-Kirk is the eighth arrival at The Technique Stadium and she will be competing for a starting spot against last season’s three top scorers in the division. The forward could make her Sheffield United debut at Charlton Athletic on Sunday.
