Charlton Athletic’s FA Women’s Championship fixture against Sheffield United which was set to take place at The Oakwood this afternoon has been postponed.
The match would have seen an improving Charlton Athletic side take on the current league leaders but the game has been called off with the playing surface waterlogged following 48 hours of heavy rain in the South of England brought by Storm Alex.
Riteesh Mishra’s side were looking to cause an upset against the promotion-chasing Blades by recording their first home league victory since they defeated Leicester City 4-0 on the final day of the 2018/2019 campaign.
The Addicks confirmed the postponement via their official club Twitter account earlier this morning. A new date for the fixture will be announced in due course. The fixture is unlikely to be hastily rescheduled with the FA Women’s Continental League Cup group games set to begin this week adding further dates to the calendar between now and Christmas.

Charlton Athletic’s next fixture is in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup. They travel to The Madejski Stadium on Wednesday evening as they test themselves against top flight opposition in the form of Reading. Sheffield United are in action on the same evening in the same competition as they renew old rivalries with Aston Villa at The Banks’s Stadium in Walsall.
