London City Lionesses midfielder Poppy Wilson has admitted that she is excited for the test which awaits both herself and her teammates when The Pride travel to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday afternoon.
Lisa Fallon’s side will have the opportunity to take on Barclays FA Women’s Super League opposition for the first time this season as The Pride begin their FA Women’s Continental League Cup campaign at The Hive.
London City Lionesses came out of last season’s competition with real credit. Despite losing their opening group fixture 5-0 at home to Arsenal, they went on to take Bristol City to penalties before netting twice against another top flight side in Brighton & Hove Albion in a 4-2 defeat.
When speaking to FA Women’s Super League Full-TIme about London City Lionesses’ latest FA Women’s Continental League Cup adventure, midfielder Wilson admitted that the Spurs game will be an exciting occasion to be involved in.
“They are exciting games and the games that we want to be playing in” said Wilson. “It is good to showcase yourself and come up against the top players.
“It is really exciting.”
Both London City Lionesses and Tottenham Hotspur go into the match challenged with turning their early season form around. Neither side have recorded a victory so far this season while both clubs have taken just a point from their respective league fixtures.
Despite the fact that The Pride travel to North West London without a win, Wilson went on to highlight the fact that head coach Fallon has put together a tight-knit group which have qualities to stand the club in good stead for the future.
She added “We have a really good togetherness this year which is one thing that we have really focused on.
“The new players that have come in have really gelled and have pushed this environment that we are trying to create and pushed the standards.
“There is a really good togetherness, we try new things off the pitch as well as on the pitch.”
London City Lionesses’ FA Women’s Continental League Cup group fixture at Tottenham Hotspur is scheduled to kick-off at 3.30pm tomorrow afternoon. At this stage, no details have been released in terms of live streaming, although it is thought that highlights may be made available on the FA Player after the match has been played.
