Manchester United have continued their unbeaten start in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League with a 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at The Hive this afternoon.

Defender Millie Turner netted the only goal of the game midway through the second half as Casey Stoney’s side moved to the top of the table.

Katie Zelem wasted a good opportunity to score inside the first minute when she headed wide before Rosella Ayane failed to hit the target when in a great position to trouble Mary Earps at the other end.

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Becky Spencer was in fine form during the first 45 minutes, twice producing big saves to keep her side in the game. First, she blocked Tobin Heath’s effort with her feet before pushing Leah Galton’s dangerous delivery to safety as the first period finished goalless.

The second half produced few quality goalscoring moments but United took the big chance when it came their way. In the 67th minute, a United corner from the right found Turner at the back post and she looped her header over Spencer and into the net.

The visitors were awarded a couple of free-kicks in dangerous positions later in the half as they looked to build on their lead but those opportunities ultimately came to nothing as United ended the match as winners by a solitary goal.

Manchester United are back in action again next Sunday when they travel to West Ham United while Spurs face a North London derby at Arsenal.
