Going into the weekend’s fixtures in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, Arsenal and Everton led the way with three wins out of three.
The pair were the only two sides in the division who could boast 100% records after three rounds of matches.
In the case of Everton, they have kept three clean sheets out of three in this season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League but fellow leaders Arsenal’s back-line has been breached on three occasions and The Gunners are yet to record a shutout.
Where the two clubs have been a class above the rest is at the other end of the pitch. Arsenal have registered 66 shots on goal so far this season and while Chelsea have a tally which is five greater than The Gunners, Joe Montemurro’s side have the best shot accuracy percentage in the league with 54.5% of their shots on target compared to the South West Londoners’ total of just 39.4%.
Everton went into this weekend with just the sixth-highest shots on goal tally with 39 shots registered in their three matches. Willie Kirk’s side have brought real quality to the final third though with 51.3% of their attempts having been on target, a record only bettered by Arsenal.
Arsenal have averaged a goal every 0.27 shots, the best average in the division while Everton are just a fraction behind The Gunners with a goal every 0.26 shots. Both of those records are considerably better than Chelsea’s third-best average of a goal every 0.14 shots.
In terms of individual player statistics, it is no surprise that Arsenal and Everton players also dominate the shots on target per 90 minutes and goals per shot statistics. Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema is the Barclays FA Women’s Super League’s most accurate shooter with the player averaging 4.67 shots on target per game while Jill Roord has managed 3.65 shots on target per game and Everton’s Hayley Raso has recorded a 2.65 shots on target per game average.
Arsenal’s Kim Little is the only player to score from every attempt on goal while Jill Roord has netted a goal every 0.55 shots. Everton’s Izzy Christiansen has scored with exactly half of her attempts on goal.
The statistics don’t lie. In a hugely competitive Barclays FA Women’s Super League, attack is the best form of defence. Quality attacking play is everything in a league which offers goals, goals and more goals.
