Arsenal midfielder Jill Roord has not been selected in Sarina Wiegman’s Dutch squad for the nation’s UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifiers against Estonia and Kosovo later this month.
The 23-year-old picked up a slight injury during the last round internationals in mid-September and she has not featured in an Arsenal shirt ever since.
It was reported that Roord was set to be sidelined for around three weeks and despite the player edging towards a competitive return for her club, she has been omitted from The Netherlands squad with the midfielder not being risked.
The Dutch face Estonia in Groningen on Friday 23 October before taking on Kosovo in Pristina four days later. Wiegman’s side need just three points to virtually make sure of finishing top of their qualification group and given the lesser opposition which they face next week, they should easily achieve that minimum target.
Roord’s Arsenal teammates Danielle van de Donk and Vivianne Miedema have been selected in the Dutch squad with the latter aiming to net her 70th senior international goal. The pair are joined by fellow Barclays FA Women’s Super League stars Inessa Kaagman and Danique Kerkdijk of Brighton & Hove Albion and in-form midfielder Jackie Groenen of Manchester United.
