Manchester City midfielder enjoys winning debut for Glasgow City

Manchester City midfielder Tyler Toland enjoyed a winning debut for loan club Glasgow City with Scott Booth’s side defeating Celtic 2-0 in their opening match of the 2020/2021 Scottish Women’s Premier League season.

The 19-year-old Republic of Ireland international midfielder joined Glasgow City on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City earlier this month and she got half an hour under her belt at Broadwood this afternoon.

Glasgow City boss Booth named Toland on the bench for their derby with Celtic in Cumbernauld but she was brought on after 60 minutes with the hosts searching for an opening goal. That goal arrived just three minutes after her introduction with Rachel McLauchlan getting her name on the scoresheet. Kirsty Howat soon netted Glasgow City’s second goal of the game as on loan Manchester City midfielder Toland and her teammates got off to a winning start in the Scottish Women’s Premier League.

Toland is aiming to help Glasgow City lift a 14th consecutive Scottish Women’s Premier League title this season. The midfielder will also get the opportunity to represent the club in the UEFA Women’s Champions League with the draw for the first qualifying round due to be conducted this week.

Manchester City signed Toland from Irish club Sion Swifts last summer but the player has found first team playing opportunities limited during her time at The Academy Stadium to date.
