Chelsea’s defensive duo Jonna Andersson and Magda Eriksson played the full 90 minutes for Sweden as they defeated Iceland 2-0 at the Gamla Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg this evening to secure their place at the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022.

Andersson collected her 52nd senior cap for her country while teammate Eriksson recorded her milestone 40th victory as a senior Swedish player on what was her 66th outing in the famous yellow shirt.

Following a competitive start in which there was little to separate the two sides, Sweden took the lead in the 25th minute when forward Sofia Jakobsson fired the ball through the legs of visiting keeper Sandra Sigurgardottir into the back of the net.

The Swedes had to wait until 12 minutes into the second half before doubling their lead. Former Manchester City striker Kosovare Asllani found Olivia Schough with a pass and the midfielder lashed the ball high into net.

Both sides had chances to add to the scoreline during the last half-hour but the match ended 2-0 in Sweden’s favour as they confirmed their place on the plane to England in a little over 18 months’ time.

Both Sweden and Iceland will complete their respective qualifying campaigns with an away fixture against Slovakia later this year.
