Coventry United’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup group fixture against Aston Villa which was scheduled to take place at the Butts Park Arena on Tuesday evening has been postponed.
Members of the Coventry United squad went into self-isolation earlier this week after some positive Covid-19 test results were recorded in the camp following the latest round of testing in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship.
Coventry United were scheduled to take on Blackburn Rovers at the Butts Park Arena on Sunday afternoon but that game was postponed after being determined that it would be in the best interests of the health and safety of players, staff and the opposition. Jay Bradford’s side were also scheduled to take on top flight side Aston Villa on home soil in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup on Tuesday evening but a decision has today been made to also call off that fixture.
The fixture against Aston Villa would have been Coventry United’s second in this season’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup. They showed some great spirit in their opening match at Durham before going down 5-2 to The Wildcats.
Coventry United released an official club statement confirming the postponement of the Aston Villa fixture earlier this afternoon and officials from both clubs will now work together to agree a new date for the rearranged match.
