Manchester City forward Chloe Kelly has admitted that she is keeping communication with her former Everton teammates to a minimum ahead of Sunday’s 2019/2020 Vitality Women’s FA Cup final.
The 22-year-old striker moved to The Academy Stadium over the course of the summer after opting to turn down the opportunity of an extended stay at former club Everton.
Kelly spent more than three happy years at Everton, joining the club on a permanent basis following two successful loan spells from Arsenal. The player has already featured for The Blue Girls in the early rounds of the 2019/2020 Vitality Women’s FA Cup but she will be lining up against them for her new employers at Wembley this weekend.
Speaking to FA Women’s Super League Full-Time in Manchester City’s pre-match press conference, Kelly admitted that she has been keeping the banter with her former teammates to a minimum in the lead up to the 2019/2020 Vitality Women’s FA Cup final.
“I haven’t really spoken to the girls too much this week, I’ve tried to keep communication to a minimum” said Kelly.
“I am quite focussed on the game now and just want to get my head into the right state of mind.
“The girls were great there (at Everton), I have great relationships with a lot of the players. Probably after the game, we will have a conversation.”
Kelly’s current club go into Sunday’s Wembley showpiece having collected five points less than her former side Everton in this season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League. The player went on to add that she is not surprised to see Everton achieve so far this season.
She said “Willie is doing a great job at Everton. Their recruitment was great and they are doing great this season.
“That is credit to the players and credit to the manager. They have done great but we want to find a way to break them down this weekend.”
The 2019/2020 Vitality Women’s FA Cup final between Everton and Manchester City kicks-off at 2.30pm on Sunday afternoon and will be screened live on BBC One, BT Sport 1 and the FA Player.
