Liverpool and Manchester City will battle for the right to take a clear lead at the top of their FA Women’s Continental League Cup group when the two sides meet at Prenton Park tomorrow afternoon.
Both sides won their opening group matches against Manchester United and Everton respectively and the winners of this week’s meeting will be in prime position to reach the quarter-finals.
Liverpool go into the match winless since that 3-1 victory over Manchester United in their last group fixture. The Reds are thought to have come through the 2-2 draw at Lewes at the weekend with no fresh injury concerns, although manager Vicky Jepson could opt to make changes as she looks to rediscover her side’s winning formula.
Manchester City arrive on Merseyside fresh from their 3-1 extra-time victory over Everton at Wembley in Sunday’s 2019/2020 Vitality Women’s FA Cup final. Eight of the 11 Manchester City players who started that match played 120 minutes therefore Wednesday’s fixture at Liverpool could offer head coach Gareth Taylor the opportunity to rotate his squad. Veteran goalkeeper Karen Bardsley could be drafted in while the likes of Gemma Bonner, Esme Morgan, Jill Scott, Jess Park, Georgia Stanway and Janine Beckie could be considered for starts.
Liverpool’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup group fixture against Manchester City is scheduled to take place at 2pm on Wednesday afternoon and will be available to watch live on the FA Player.
