Goalkeeper Katie Startup has returned to Brighton & Hove Albion with her short-term loan spell with FA Women’s Championship club Charlton Athletic having come to an end as reported on The Addicks’ official website.
The 21-year-old signed a two-year deal with Albion in the summer after opting to leave Charlton Athletic following a three-year stay with The Addicks. She will compete with Cecilie Fiskerstrand and Megan Walsh for the number one jersey during her time at The People’s Pension Stadium.
With Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Shanell Salgado out for the entire 2020/2021 campaign with an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury sustained in pre-season, manager Riteesh Mishra turned to former keeper Startup in the short-term, bringing the player back to the club on loan. Startup made five appearances for The Addicks since returning to the club, recording a clean sheet in the 1-0 victory at Blackburn Rovers in September.
It has today been confirmed that Startup’s temporary stay at The Oakwood has come to an end with the player returning to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Former Bristol City goalkeeper Eartha Cumings was in goal for Charlton Athletic yesterday as they recorded an excellent 1-1 draw with Durham at Maiden Castle. The Scot was sensational in-between the sticks, pulling off a number of key saves as The Addicks collected a useful point.
Simone Eligon provided cover for Cumings in the North East and she could continue to push her for the Charlton Athletic goalkeeping jersey in the coming weeks.
