Manchester City and Chelsea will learn of their round of 32 opponents in the UEFA Women’s Champions League when the draw is made on Tuesday morning (11am).
The 16 seeded sides which include both Barclays FA Women’s Super League clubs will meet the 16 unseeded sides in the round of 32. The unseeded teams will be at home on 9/10 December while the seeded teams will play on home soil one week later on 15/16 December.
The seedings have been determined based on UEFA’s club coefficient rankings. Manchester City are the sixth-highest ranked side while Chelsea are eighth. Clubs from the same country cannot meet in the round of 32 regardless of seed while COVID-19 travel restrictions have also been considered by UEFA when drafting the two seeded and unseeded pots.
UEFA have today confirmed the final seeded and unseeded groups for the draw. Manchester City are in Group 3 alongside Brondby (DEN), Slavia Prague (CZE) and Paris Saint-Germain (FRA) while Chelsea are in Group 4 with Bayern Munich (GER), Atletico Madrid (SPA) and Glasgow City (SCO).
Manchester City could face second-highest rank Fiorentina (ITA) from the unseeded pot, Goteborg (SWE) or round of 32 debutants Valerenga (NOR) or Gornik Leczna (POL). Chelsea could be drawn against top unseeded side Sparta Prague (CZE), Ajax (NED) or one of two clubs yet to feature in the round of 32 in Benfica (POR) or Servette (SUI).
With heavy December schedules prior to the Christmas break, both Manchester City and Chelsea will be hoping for favourable draws in the UEFA Women’s Champions League round of 32. They will be keen to land ties against the lesser ranked sides in their groups’ unseeded pots.
Should Manchester City and Chelsea qualify, the round of 16 is pencilled in for 3/4 and 10/11 March 2021.
