Manchester United full-back Ona Batlle collected her sixth senior international cap for Spain in the nation’s 10-0 victory over Moldova in Madrid this evening.
The 21-year-old played the first half of Spain’s latest UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifier at the Pabellon de la Cuidad del Futbol 1 before being replaced by Leila Ouahabi.
Spain had the game virtually won inside 15 minutes thanks to goals from Aitana Bonmati and Jennifer Hermoso before the latter found the back of the net again in the 25th minute.
Mariona Caldentay and Bonmati soon contributed Spain’s fourth and fifth goals, the first from the penalty spot, before a Dumitrita Prisacari own goal made it 6-0 to the hosts going into the break.
Manchester United defender Batlle was withdrawn at the interval, the third time in six appearances that she has not been given the opportunity to complete 90 minutes.
Spain went on to score a further four goals in the second half as they racked up a double-figure scoreline. Alexia Putellas netted the first before Patricia Guijarro hit Spain’s eighth goal of the match. Eva Navarro’s strike then made it 9-0 before Hermoso completed both the evening’s scoring and her hat-trick with an 87th-minute penalty kick.
Spain are top of their qualifying group and will qualify for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 tournament finals by avoiding defeat against Poland on Tuesday.
