‘My future is here’ says Birmingham City head coach following West Ham United speculation

Birmingham City head coach Carla Ward has insisted that she plans on staying with the club for the long-term following recent speculation over her immediate future.

The 36-year-old took charge of the Blues just weeks before the start of the new Barclays FA Women’s Super League season and has overseen a wonderful transformation at the SportNation.bet Stadium in the last three months.

Despite being the favourites for relegation for many, Birmingham City currently find themselves flying high in the top half of the table with a struggle seemingly highly unlikely.

With Ward impressing in her first spell in top flight management, the former Sheffield United boss is thought to have been on the wanted list of Birmingham City’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League rivals West Ham United but the Blues head coach has today reassured fans that she is planning for a long-term stay at the SportNation.bet Stadium.

“My future is here” Ward said when speaking to Blues TV. “I don’t want to go anywhere else.

“The job is half-done, it is not done yet so as far as I’m concerned, it’s about the staff, the players, the football club.

“I have had conversations with the board this week and I can honestly say that after those conversations, we are on the same page and both want the same things for Birmingham City Women.

“You can’t get rid of me just yet.”

The progress made at Birmingham City has been huge in recent weeks. Despite having to deal with an injury crisis in what is already a wafer-thin squad, Ward has guided the Blues to four wins in their last five matches in all competitions while her side have also recorded four clean sheets.

Birmingham City face a really tough fixture list in December with games against Arsenal, Everton and Manchester City on the horizon but the club will go into those games with plenty of confidence given recent performances.
