The Football Association have this morning announced that Manchester United defender Abbie McManus has been drafted into the England squad for the remainder of this week’s training camp.

The 27-year-old Prestwich-born centre-back was not included in England boss Phil Neville’s initial 29-player squad for this month’s training camp at St George’s Park but she has now been added to the group for the final few days of training.

The Lionesses are set to play a second behind-closed-doors inter-squad friendly match later this week and it has been confirmed that McManus is expected to play a part in that game as manager Neville again fields ‘home’ and ‘away’ England sides against each other.

McManus has made five appearances for Barclays FA Women’s Super League leaders Manchester United in the league this season, helping her side to record two clean sheets. She also appeared for United against Liverpool in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup group fixture in October.

The defender has been capped by her country on 18 occasions since making her senior debut for the Lionesses at the 2018 SheBelieves Cup in the United States. She most recently appeared for England in the 2020 SheBelieves Cup as they lost 1-0 to Spain in Texas in March.
