West Ham United midfielder Katerina Svitkova was on target for the Czech Republic this afternoon as they defeated Moldova 7-0 in their latest UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifier in Chomutov.

Karel Rada’s side needed a victory to keep their play-off hopes alive in Group D and they achieved that by seeing off the threat of a weak Moldovan side who arrived in the Czech Republic on the back of a double-figure defeat to group leaders Spain on Friday evening.

West Ham United midfielder Svitkova started the match at the Letni Stadion Chomutov and she played the first 61 minutes before being replaced by Tereza Krejcirikova. The 24-year-old netted her side’s fourth goal in the 36th minute of the match.

Svitkova netted her 18 international goal for the Czech Republic in what was her 36th appearance for her country at senior level.

Czech Republic’s victory over Moldova moves them back into the runners-up position in their group. They will end their qualification campaign in a play-off spot should Poland fail to beat Spain in Madrid in their final group match. The pair were set to meet this evening but UEFA agreed to postpone the match due to positive COVID-19 tests in the Polish camp. That fixture is now set to be rescheduled for the February 2021 international break.
