Manchester City are yet to learn of the extent of the knee injury sustained by United States international midfielder Rose Lavelle at Everton yesterday according to reports on the club’s official website.
The 25-year-old was withdrawn at the break by head coach Gareth Taylor with the player having taken a blow to her knee.
Manchester City are set to fly out to Sweden for their UEFA Women’s Champions League round of 32 first leg tie against Goteborg in the coming hours but the club are understood to be yet to learn of the full extent of Lavelle’s injury. The player is seemingly doubtful for the midweek fixture at Valhalla IP on Wednesday.
The Barclays FA Women’s Super League club exited last season’s competition at the round of 32 stage after being defeated 3-2 on aggregate by Spanish club Atletico Madrid. City were held to a 1-1 draw at The Academy Stadium in the first leg before they were defeated 2-1 in the return match.
With midfielder Lavelle having spent all of her career in the United States prior to this season, she now has the opportunity to test herself in the UEFA Women’s Champions League for the very first time, should she overcome her injury. European football’s stellar prize is the one piece of silverware that has not been added to Manchester City’s trophy cabinet in recent years and Lavelle will be hoping to help the club fill that void.
