Leicester City manager Jonathan Morgan has admitted that he is delighted to see goalkeeper Kirstie Levell come into the media spotlight.

The 23-year-old made the brave decision to drop down to the second tier after leaving former club Everton in the summer and she has recorded three clean sheets in her last four games in all competitions for her new club.

Levell’s latest clean sheet came this afternoon as Leicester City recorded a goalless draw with Birmingham City in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup. The keeper saved Mollie Green’s first half penalty at The SportNation.bet Stadium while she also came out on the winning side in the penalty shootout as Leicester City claimed a place in the quarter-finals.

When speaking to FA Women’s Super League Full-Time after the match, Morgan expressed his delight in seeing Levell receive some praise for her performances.

“Kirstie has started to put a string of clean sheets together” said Morgan. “Tony (goalkeeping coach) has been working hard with her and she has been absorbing everything like a sponge.

“We knew her qualities when we signed her in the summer and we are just delighted to see her get the rewards and the plaudits that she deserves now.”

Leicester City will now await the draw for the quarter-finals of this season’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup and Morgan believes that his side have nothing to fear regardless of who they are paired with.

He said “Being in the quarter-finals for the first time in our history as a club, that’s a special moment for us.

“We can take on any club in the WSL and will put out a good competitive show and that’s the most important thing to us.

“Results in this competition are nice and it’s good to beat Birmingham and get through but we are under no illusions of what is most important to us and that is the league.”

Leicester City are back in FA Women’s Championship action on Sunday when they travel to The Oakwood to take on struggling Charlton Athletic.
