Off the back of two monthly accolades for manager Casey Stoney and United States international forward Tobin Heath, Manchester United will be looking to continue their unbeaten run at the top of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table when they face mid-table Reading on Sunday.
Whilst The Red Devils were praised for their November efforts, The Royals have been slipping into a winless rut, having failed to win in the league since 4 October. Last time out, an outstanding display from Bristol City goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley, frustrated Reading to a fourth consecutive draw in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. From the bottom side to the top, manager Kelly Chambers will be hoping that the continued return of fans and stalwart Fara Williams will help to change their
fortunes, yet recognises the ‘tough’ challenge that comes from the league leaders.
Manchester United manager, Casey Stoney, is positive about her injury woes, praising her squad depth. This week saw Martha Harris return to training but unfortunately, she is not ready to play against Reading. Midfielder Jackie Groenen took an early blow in their 2-0 victory against Aston Villa with a head injury and is still a concern for Sunday’s fixture.
Ella Toone will be hoping to continue her form against Reading. Toone was selected in the FA Women’s Super League Full-Time’s Team of the Weekend following her performance against Villa. The forward currently tops United’s goalscoring charts with four goals which includes a delightful 30-yard lob in their fixture against The Villains.
Reading’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Manchester United at The Madejski Stadium kicks-off at 12.30pm on Sunday afternoon and will be broadcast live on the BBC Red Button and on the FA Player.
