Durham forward Molly Sharpe says that the club are proud of the fact that they are the only team in the top two tiers to have not been defeated in 90 minutes since football resumed in late August.

The Wildcats are the only club in the FA Women’s Championship yet to taste defeat while every club in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League have lost other than Manchester United and Chelsea, although both have suffered cup losses.

Durham’s unbeaten run continued this afternoon as they defeated promotion rivals Liverpool 2-0 at Maiden Castle and after the match, Sharpe told FA Women’s Super League Full-Time that the club’s record is one that they are very proud of.

“We try not to think about it but we are the only team in the top two leagues who are unbeaten (since the restart in August)” said Sharpe.

“It is a really big thing for us and we obviously take a lot of pride in that. We want to carry that on every single week and try and stay unbeaten if we can.”

By their high standards, Durham have had a bit of a wobble of late with two home draws and having to come from 3-1 down to win 4-3 at Coventry United last weekend. Sharpe believes that this afternoon’s victory will help steady things down again ahead of a fascinating 2021 for The Wildcats.

She added “The two home draws were really difficult games and last week, conceding three goals was really difficult for us and something which hasn’t happened to us in a really long time.

“For us to get out of that situation (against Coventry United) and put everything into this week and then keep a clean sheet helps us reset going into the New Year.”

Durham had to defend resolutely and work really hard for their victory over Liverpool, a result which keeps the club in touching distance of league leaders Leicester City. Speaking about the team’s performance, Sharpe said “It was unbelievable from the girls; graft, hard work, it was an unbelievable result for us.

“Liverpool are a top side, coming down last year, and they have some really good players but I think we showed passion today and really deserved that result.”

Durham return to action on Sunday 10 January 2021 when they make the long trip to Lewes in the FA Women’s Championship.
