Birmingham City’s final Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture of 2020 against Manchester City has been postponed due to a waterlogged playing surface at The SportNation.bet Stadium.

The pair were set to go into battle in Solihull this afternoon but the recent heavy rain has taken it’s toll on the pitch at Birmingham City’s home stadium.

The fixture is the third in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League to be postponed this weekend. West Ham United’s home fixture against Aston Villa and the London derby between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also off as a result of positive COVID-19 tests.

Birmingham City have now seen their last two league fixtures postponed. Last weekend’s home clash with Everton at The SportNation.bet Stadium also fell foul of the weather. While the postponements will be frustrating for Blues head coach Carla Ward, she will at least now have additional time to recruit new players to help bolster her wafer-thin squad.

Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor may also be not overly upset by the postponement of this afternoon’s match. City were set to be missing up to four first team players for the trip to The Midlands. The club have endured a frantic run of fixtures which has seen them play four games in 16 days in December including a trip to Sweden in the round of 32 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

A new date for Birmingham City’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Manchester City will be agreed by the two clubs in due course.
