Chelsea reached the semi-finals of the 2018/2019 UEFA Women’s Champions League before their run was eventually ended by European champions Lyon.

It was a superb European campaign for Emma Hayes’ side who netted 23 goals in eight ties throughout the four rounds in which they participated.

FA Women’s Super League Full-Time look back at The Blues’ round of 32 second leg tie against Bosnian side Sarajevo. Hayes’ side went into the tie at Kingsmeadow leading 5-0 from the first leg and they finished off in style back on home turf.

Chelsea got off to a flying start at Kingsmeadow with Drew Spence opening the scoring after just four minutes. To Sarajevo’s credit, the floodgates did not open and only Fran Kirby was able to add a further first half goal as The Blues ended the half with a 2-0 lead and a 7-0 advantage on aggregate.

The hosts’ quality eventually shone through in the second half as Chelsea added four further goals to their tally. Maren Mjelde struck a stunning free-kick just after the break as she put her side 3-0 up on the night.

Sarajevo tired as the half went on and Kirby completed her brace with a close range finish before Hannah Blundell and Erin Cuthbert scored at the death as The Blues ended the night 6-0 winners, qualifying for the round of 16 courtesy of an 11-0 aggregate victory.

Chelsea went on to see off Fiorentina in the round of 16 and Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals before being defeated by Lyon over two legs in the semi-finals.
