Arsenal’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Aston Villa at The Banks’s Stadium has been postponed on health and safety grounds, the club have confirmed.

The Gunners were set to travel to The Midlands on Saturday but it has now been determined that the fixture will not go ahead due to positive COVID-19 tests in the Arsenal camp and players being made to self-isolate.

The Football Association have considered the current situation at Arsenal and have agreed to postpone the fixture in the best interests of health and safety.

Aston Villa will hope to return to action on Wednesday evening when they are scheduled to travel to Bristol City in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup quarter-finals while Arsenal are set to face Reading in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League in their next match on Sunday 17 January.

Aston Villa’s meeting with Arsenal is the second Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture to be called off today with Manchester City’s home clash against West Ham United having also fell foul of the Coronavirus pandemic with some City players having tested positive for the virus.

A new date for Aston Villa’s rearranged meeting with Arsenal at The Banks’s Stadium will be announced in due course.
