Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Alanna Kennedy has decided to stay in North London, converting her loan move into a permanent deal until the end of the current season according to reports on Spurs’ official website.

The Australian international joined Spurs from Orlando Pride in the summer on an initial loan arrangement with an option to make the deal permanent. Whilst in London, she was traded to Racing Louisville in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

Kennedy has made 12 appearances in all competitions for Spurs so far this season, scoring her first goal in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup with a trademark free-kick against London City Lionesses.

On the international stage, Kennedy made her debut for The Matildas in 2012 and played in both the 2015 and 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cups, starting all four of Australia’s games in the latter tournament. At international level, Kennedy plays at centre-back but in club football, she is more regularly seen at the centre of the midfield.

At Spurs, Kennedy has played a deep midfield role, often alongside Josie Green, but she has also shown that she has some attacking qualities especially in matches against North London rivals Arsenal.  In her time at Tottenham Hotspur, Kennedy has shown some of her potential but there is more to come from her in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and at 25 years old, Spurs fans will be hoping that this isn’t her only season as a Lilywhite.

After completing her permanent move, Kennedy told official Spurs media sources “I’m so excited and happy to be here. I didn’t feel ready to end my time here.

“As a team we’re moving in an upward direction and starting to show what we are capable of.

“I believe in our goals and want to help the team fulfil our potential this season.”

After the recent departure of Alex Morgan, this signing will give a boost to the team and fans ahead of a crucial couple of months for the club as they look to build on the back-to-back wins achieved in December.
