Charlton Athletic’s FA Women’s Championship fixture against Blackburn Rovers which was scheduled to take place at The Oakwood on Sunday has been postponed, the club have announced.
A number of individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 therefore the fixture has been postponed on health and safety grounds with players now being forced to self-isolate.
The match is the third elite women’s football fixture to be called off this weekend with Manchester City’s fixture against West Ham United and Arsenal’s trip to Aston Villa in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League having also been postponed for the same reason.
The postponement will be frustrating for Riteesh Mishra and his Charlton Athletic side with the club hoping to climb off the bottom of the FA Women’s Championship table as soon as possible, however, player health and wellbeing is paramount at a time when the pandemic is wreaking havoc across the United Kingdom.
Charlton Athletic are the ‘odd club out’ next weekend meaning that they are now not scheduled to return to action until 24 January when they travel to Coventry United.
A new date for The Addicks’ postponed fixture against Blackburn Rovers is set to be agreed between the two clubs in due course.
