All of the Arsenal players who were made to self-isolate ahead of last weekend’s postponed Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Aston Villa have returned to training and are in contention to face Reading at The Madejski Stadium on Sunday, the club have confirmed.
The Gunners’ trip to The Banks’s Stadium was postponed following one positive COVID-19 test in their camp while seven other players were forced into self-isolation on health and safety grounds.
The club have this morning provided a fitness update ahead of this weekend’s meeting with Reading confirming that the players involved have returned to training. The fixture is therefore expected to go ahead as planned on Sunday afternoon.
There is also some good news on the injury front for The Gunners. Head coach Joe Montemurro will have Swiss pair Noelle Maritz and Lia Walti available to him with the players having returned to full training. Maritz has not featured for the North Londoners since October after struggling with a knee injury while Walti played 28 minutes of Arsenal’s final match of 2020 against Everton and is now thought to be fit to start.
Viktoria Schnaderbeck and Steph Catley continue to be sidelined for The Gunners with their respective injuries.
Arsenal begin 2021 in third place in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table. The Gunners have a four-point gap to bridge on leaders Manchester United.
