Aston Villa draft experienced coach Bignot into interim managerial role

Aston Villa have appointed experienced coach Marcus Bignot into an interim manager role according to reports on the club’s official website.

The 46-year-old joins Villa until the end of the current campaign and will use his vast knowledge of the game to help the club continue to develop as a top flight outfit.

Bignot will oversee Villa boss Gemma Davies and her squad and is set to provide additional support with the club’s current structure not set to be impacted by his arrival.

Bignot enjoyed a 24-year senior playing career while saw him represent the likes of Crewe Alexandra, Bristol Rovers, Queens Park Rangers and Millwall. The former defender won English Football League promotions with both Rushden & Diamonds and Queens Park Rangers.

Since the early days of his playing career, Bignot has displayed a real passion for coaching and he was appointed the manager of Birmingham City Ladies in 1998 at the age of just 24. He took charge of the Blues for seven years, guiding them to two league titles. Bignot was later employed in a player-manager role at Solihull Moors before going on to take charge of Grimsby Town, Chester and Guiseley, where his is currently joint-manager alongside his role working within the men’s England Under-19 coaching structure.

Bignot will begin his temporary role with Aston Villa with immediate effect.
