Former Arsenal and West Ham United defender Vyan Sampson has joined Charlton Athletic according to reports on The Addicks’ official website.

The 24-year-old joins the South East Londoners on a free transfer and she could go straight into the Charlton Athletic squad to face her former club London City Lionesses at The Oakwood this evening.

Sampson spent last season on loan at London City Lionesses and she went on to make 10 FA Women’s Championship appearances for The Pride in which she netted one goal. After leaving parent club West Ham United at the end of last season, Sampson had a short spell playing in San Marino before swifty returning to England.

The defender started out with Charlton Athletic as a youth player in the club’s Centre of Excellence before later moving into the Arsenal academy. The player made her senior debut whilst on The Gunners’ books in October 2014 in an old FA Women’s Super League 1 fixture against Everton.

Sampson later became a member of West Ham United’s first full-time squad in 2018/2019. She made 15 appearances for The Hammers in a spell which was hindered by injury.

The player will be hoping to now make her mark in her second spell at Charlton Athletic, starting with their fixture against London City Lionesses tonight.
