Icelandic international midfielder Dagný Brynjarsdóttir has completed a move to West Ham United from Selfoss according to reports on The Hammers’ official website.

Brynjarsdóttir grew up as a West Ham United fan in her native Iceland and in 2011 began attending Florida State University where she played for the college side, the Seminoles. She then joined Selfoss for her first stint with the Icelandic club before enjoying spells with both Bayern Munich and the Portland Thorns in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). She returned to Selfoss in 2019.

On the international stage, the 29-year-old has represented her country on 90 occasions since 2010 and has scored 29 goals during that period.

Brynjarsdóttir is the first new face brought to The Chigwell Construction Stadium by new West Ham United manager Olli Harder. He also made Emily van Egmond’s loan move from Orlando Pride permanent earlier this month.

Harder has been challenged with turning West Ham United’s fortunes around after taking over from Matt Beard. The East Londoners currently occupy 10th position in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table, just two places above the relegation zone, having only taken points from three games this season. Next up for The Hammers is the unenviable task of an away trip to Manchester City, a team who have scored seven goals in each of their last two league games, on Sunday.
