Chelsea legend Claire Rafferty will pull on her boots once again after registering as a player at FA Women’s Championship club Lewes.
The 32-year-old full-back retired from playing at the end of the 2018/2019 season and joined the Board at Lewes where she became a non-executive director.
Lewes have today provided a squad update via their official club website and have surprised their fans with news that Rafferty is pulling on her boots again.
The former England international joins up with the Lewes playing squad as a ‘training player’, a role that is likely to mean that she could be called upon when needed by manager Simon Parker.
Rafferty made a name for herself in the game during an 11-year spell with Chelsea. The defender joined the club from Millwall Lionesses in 2007 and went on to play an instrumental role in the South West Londoners’ rise to the top of the English game. Rafferty won two FA Women’s Super League 1 titles with The Blues, as well as the 2017 FA Women’s Super League 1 Spring Series while she also lifted the Women’s FA Cup on two occasions with the club.
While Rafferty has bolstered Lewes’ squad numbers, the club have also today announced that Hannah Griffin, Lucy Porter and Ella Newman have departed The Dripping Pan. Midfielder Emily Donovan also left the club yesterday.
