Arsenal will hope to return to winning ways in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League when they travel to The Banks’s Stadium to take on Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Gunners drew 1-1 at Reading last time out before last weekend’s London derby against West Ham United at Meadow Park was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

Marcus Bignot’s spell as interim manager of Aston Villa got off to a losing start as his side were defeated 4-0 at home to Barclays FA Women’s Super League leaders Chelsea on Wednesday evening. Bignot saw the positives in Villa’s performance, although they really must begin to become harder to beat and stop conceding so many early goals.

Defender Ella Franklin-Fraiture continues to be sidelined with long-term injury for Villa while it is thought that midfielders Ramona Petzelberger and Chloe Arthur could be edging nearer to their respective first team returns.

Arsenal head coach Joe Montemurro is not thought to have any new injury concerns to contend with ahead of his side’s trip to The Midlands. Defensive duo Steph Catley and Viktoria Schnaderbeck are out as they continue their rehabilitations from their long-term injuries.

Aston Villa’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Arsenal is scheduled to kick-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon and will be available for fans to stream live on the FA Player. A pitch inspection could be required to determine whether the game goes ahead following poor weather conditions in Walsall over the last 24 hours.
